Memorial Walk

Each year on the longest night of the year (December 21), communities throughout the world remember those who have died in homelessness that year. In Fort Wayne, anyone is welcome to join the Homeless Memorial Walk, which is leaves from the Rescue Mission and ends at Headwaters Park for a short ceremony. Details will be available closer to the event.

Point in Time Count

The federal department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) identifies one day each year, usually the final Wednesday in January, as the Point in Time count of the homeless population throughout the United States. Volunteers and organizations utilize different means to identify and acquire demographic information about the sheltered and unsheltered population in our community. Continue to check this page for information about the next local count and how you can help.

NSP (NSP1 & NSP3)

The federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) was established for the purpose of stabilizing communities that have suffered from foreclosures and abandonment. Through the purchase and redevelopment of foreclosed and abandoned homes and residential properties, the goal of the program is being realized.

NSP1, a term that references the NSP funds authorized under Division B, Title III of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act (HERA) of 2008, provides grants to all states and selected local governments on a formula basis.

NSP3, a term that references the NSP funds authorized under the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank Act) of 2010, provides a third round of neighborhood stabilization grants to all states and select governments on a formula basis.
