Walking or biking from The Landing to the downtown alleys and murals just got a lot easier. Crews recently painted a new green pedestrian and bike path along Harmony Court (beside PNC Bank Tower) and the alley behind Coney Island.

greenpathThe new path invites people to visit the downtown alleyway network that are filled with murals and also make a stop at the downtown businesses and public spaces. The project is part of the Downtown Public Realm Action Plan created by consultants at Gehl and the City’s Planning & Policy Department. It is funded by a grant from the Knight Foundation/Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne.

The Downtown Public Realm Action Plan recently earned a prestigious 2020 National Planning Achievement Gold Award for Urban Design. Implementation of the plan is led by the City’s Planning & Policy Department and is helping transform several downtown alleys into welcoming places. One of those is the Porch Off Calhoun, located in the parking spaces adjacent to the alley on Calhoun Street next to Pint ‘n Slice, 816 S. Calhoun St. The parking spaces have been transformed into a welcoming gathering area with seating, planters, art and lighting.
