Fort Wayne, Ind. – Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry today announced the City of Fort Wayne will invest federal dollars in 19 local nonprofit programs.

Nearly $540,000, in Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds will help low- and moderate-income residents with shelter, employment skills, domestic violence support and youth development. This is more than the usual yearly grant allocations because, due to the pandemic, the City received additional funding from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Summit City Entrepreneur and Enterprise District (SEED) recently graduated its 20th Build Institute Entrepreneur Education class.

The 14 new companies are launching or relaunching their businesses in the areas of employment for healthcare agencies, adult residential care, childcare centers, housing support for low-income households, and business counseling. The retail businesses include a bookstore, specialty gifts, beauty supply, barber shop, and jewelry. Online businesses include travel and hospitality, and handcrafted wood décor.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division today announced that 27 neighborhood associations are being awarded grants totaling more than $117,000 to improve their communities.

Any registered Fort Wayne neighborhood association or one of the City’s four Area Partnerships could apply to receive up to $5,000 for the Neighborhood Improvement Grant.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – E-scooters and bikes are returning to Fort Wayne. Veo, a shared mobility company based in Chicago, released 200 e-scooters and pedal bikes to the near downtown area today. The devices will be available immediately Thursday, April 1.

Scooters and bikes continue to prevail as popular commuting and recreational devices. Over the 16 months of an initial pilot program, Fort Wayne residents and visitors showed their support by using the scooters so often that the City became one of the hottest markets for Veo in 2020.
