Project Overview
In 2021, the City of Fort Wayne adopted the Southeast Strategy Update; a comprehensive sub-area plan for reinvesting in Fort Wayne's southeast quadrant of the City. The plan identifies several projects and initiatives to enhance commercial corridors and nodes, one of these corridors is Oxford Street specifically between Lafayette and Anthony. Strategies for this area include aesthetic improvements such as landscaping, lighting, public art, and pedestrian connections along the corridor and to Weisser Park a block north of the project site.
Project Goals
The project objective is to create a pedestrian-oriented and friendly environment for the Oxford Street Corridor with the following goals:
- Goal 1: Implementation of traffic calming solutions
- Goal 2: Reconstruction of curbs and walks to meet current ADA standards
- Goal 3: Reconstruction of all deteriorated drive approaches
- Goal 4: Create an identity for the Oxford Street corridor
- Goal 5: Update pedestrian scale street lighting
- Goal 6: Improve stormwater drainage
Project Location
Oxford Street is an east-west roadway, which traverses through the Oxford Neighborhood Association located in Southeast Fort Wayne. The project will be designed in phases and will occur between Lafayette Street to the west and Anthony Boulevard to the east.
