The Fort Wayne Public Art Commission is inviting area residents to share their opinions about public art. The Commission recently launched a website, www.FortWaynePublicArt.com which offers three ways residents can provide input about what kinds of public art they’d like to see and in what locations.

The interactive map allows visitors to the website to drop a pin, or mark a location, on the map of Fort Wayne and indicate a place of significance or a place where public art should be installed. The “submit idea” feature on the website, asks visitors to upload images and ideas about public art in Fort Wayne. And finally, the website directs residents to an online survey that asks them about the kinds of public art they’d like to see, what ideas public art should represent and where it should be located.

Public input via the website will be accepted through June 21, 2019.

Consultants from Designing Local of Columbus, Ohio will use the input provided by residents, as well as information collected through public meetings and one-on-one conversations, to create the Fort Wayne Public Art Master Plan. The plan is being developed for the Public Art Commission in partnership with the City of Fort Wayne Community Development Division and Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne.

The master plan will lay out a comprehensive vision for public artworks, such as murals and sculptures, now and in the future and will help define locations and projects appropriate for Fort Wayne and its neighborhoods. The plan will identify guiding principles for developing and sustaining Fort Wayne’s collection of public artwork in a way that supports collaboration, diversity, economic vitality and the highest levels of creativity.
