Cities United, the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Fort Wayne Fire Department will host the "Unity in the Community" Charity Classic basketball game on Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Indiana Tech Schaefer Center. All proceeds from the event will go to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana and Community Harvest Food Bank.

The FWPD and FWFD basketball teams will engage in friendly competition with teams of minority males who participate in programs at the Boys & Girls Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the YMCA, along with other boys and men of color in our community. There will be two games: the first with younger children and the second with high school-aged youth. The evening will include a slam dunk contest at half-time, prizes and giveaways, and booths with information about opportunities for children in the community.

In addition to providing invaluable resources for the Boys & Girls Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Community Harvest Food Bank, the event aims to build a positive relationship between public safety organizations and boys and men of color. The FWPD, FWFD and Cities United believe that opening a dialogue with their constituents is a vital step towards building a stronger community, safer city and brighter futures for all.
