Annexation of Unincorporated Areas of La Cabreah and La Crista
Tentative schedule:
1) July 18 and 19: Three public meetings (information below)
2) July 10: Fiscal Plan Resolution and Annexation Ordinance is introduced to City Council
3) July 24: City Council discusses and adopts Fiscal Plan resolution
4) September 11: City Council holds a public hearing on the annexation ordinance
5) October 23: City Council discusses and votes on the ordinance
6) October 25: Mayor Tom Henry signs annexation ordinance
7) November 14: 90-day remonstrance period begins
8) February 12, 2019: 90-day remonstrance period ends
9) January 1, 2020: Annexation is effective; according to State statute, an annexation cannot take effect in the year preceding a decennial census, therefore the annexation effective date cannot be in 2019 and is pushed into 2020.
Residents of the area may sign remonstrance petitions at the following locations and times:
1) City of Fort Wayne Community Development Offices, Suite 320 Citizens Square
-Anytime now through February 12, 2019, Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding observed holidays
2) Allen County Public Library, Dupont Branch, 536 E. Dupont Rd.
-December 5, 12, 19, and 26 between the hours of 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
-December 15 between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
A remonstrance petition may only be filed by an owner of real property that:
1) Is within the area to be annexed,
2) Was not exempt from property taxes under Indiana Code 6‐1.1‐10 or any other state law for the immediately preceding year, and
3) Is not subject to a valid waiver of remonstrance.
