Fort Wayne, Ind. – The City of Fort Wayne has provided updates for public parking and traffic restrictions surrounding the dedication of the Pillars of Hope and Justice public art monument on June 5 in downtown Fort Wayne.

Pillars of Hope and Justice commemorates the June 5, 1963 visit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to Fort Wayne, during which he gave a speech at the former Scottish Rite Auditorium sharing his vision for nonviolent resistance.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Fort Wayne Public Art Commission is seeking proposals from artists for Phase 1 of a pilot program, SHOUT-OUT: Fort Wayne!, to work collaboratively with two neighborhood association leaders and residents to express a story, idea, or characteristic of each neighborhood through temporary public art installations.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Mayor Tom Henry and the City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division today led a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on a major single-family housing development in southeast Fort Wayne.

Roosevelt Reserves is a 131-lot subdivision, the largest market rate single-family housing development in southeast Fort Wayne in nearly 50 years.  The development is situated on 126 acres of land at Tillman and Hessen Cassel roads, and the total investment is expected to be approximately $40 million over the next three to four years.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division and the Northeastern Indiana Regional Coordinating Council (NIRCC) have launched an Active Transportation Survey.

This survey is part of a collaborative planning effort between the two agencies and is designed to gather insight into the public’s preferences and usage of bike and walking infrastructure.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – On June 5, the Fort Wayne Public Art Commission will unveil Pillars of Hope and Justice, a public art monument in downtown Fort Wayne.

Designed by artists Shane Allbritton and Norman Lee with RE:site Studio, the monument commemorates the June 5, 1963 visit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to Fort Wayne, during which he gave a speech at the former Scottish Rite Auditorium sharing his vision for nonviolent resistance. King’s Fort Wayne speech was part of a critical sequence of speeches from “Letter from Birmingham Jail” on April 16, 1963 to “The Great March to Freedom” on June 23, 1963 to “I Have a Dream” on the National Mall on August 28, 1963. Because a complete, fully recorded version of his speech was not known to exist, the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society collected, assembled and ordered all documented remarks, as repeated in area newspapers.
