Mayor Tom Henry today announced Nancy Townsend has been promoted to director of the City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division.

Since February 2016, Townsend has served as director of the Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission and managed the staff of the Redevelopment Department within the Community Development Division. She has been instrumental in providing leadership and direction on key projects as part of Fort Wayne’s downtown revitalization efforts.

Prior to leading redevelopment efforts, Townsend was City Utilities’ Manager of Development Services, which partners with the private sector to promote growth and development through the expansion of utility services. In addition, she previously served as a Senior Planner and Community Development Specialist in the Community Development Division. Townsend has worked for the City since 1990.
Townsend holds a Bachelor’s in Urban Development and Public Policy from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

Townsend will begin her new duties effective September 1. She replaces Cindy Joyner who is retiring after 18 years of public service.

“I’m looking forward to having Nancy as part of my team of division directors,” said Mayor Henry. “I value and appreciate her work ethic, leadership skills, and commitment to serving the public. Nancy’s experience and expertise will be valuable assets as we move forward with important projects and initiatives.”
