August 12, 2020 - A previously vacant house slated for demolition is now getting new life, thanks to the City’s Office of Housing & Neighborhood Services (OHNS) and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne.

The home in the South Wayne Neighborhood had been in foreclosure and on the demolition list when OHNS saw potential in the property, purchased it from the bank in 2015 and repaired the failing foundation. OHNS then partnered with Habitat for Humanity, which is putting on a new roof, completely rehabilitating the inside of the home and ensuring that it is free of lead-based paint hazards. Once the rehabilitation is complete, the new homeowner and her daughter will be able to move in.

Financial support for the project comes from the City of Fort Wayne’s U.S. Housing & Urban Development (HUD) funds.
