Construction of the first phase of the Posterity Heights Development, known as Posterity Scholar House, is on schedule to open in the summer or early fall of 2018. Framing has been completed on the north and south buildings and water and sewer lines are being installed. Just last week, the Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission gave final approval to a tax increment finance district that will help cover infrastructure costs for roads and utilities.

BWI, LLC broke ground on the energy-efficient affordable housing development in September. The development sits on the 28-acre site of the former McMillen Apartment Complex at 4209 Plaza Drive. This first phase of the development includes 44 two- and three-bedroom apartments designed for single parents enrolled in one of the local universities. The one-of-a-kind development combines energy-efficient housing with an electric car sharing program for residents.

Financing for Posterity Scholar House comes from the State of Indiana's Rental Housing Tax Credit Program, the Northeast Indian Regional Cities fund, The City of Fort Wayne, federal HOME funds, and private investors, including BWI, LLC, the National Equity Fund, BMO Harris Bank, and Column Financial.

BWI has partnered with Joshua’s Hand to develop Posterity Scholar House. Joshua’s Hand is a local Community Housing Development Organization whose mission is to assist the community in helping socioeconomically challenged persons replace the destructive habits that produce impoverished communities with positive, supportive and transformative services.

Future phases of the Posterity Heights development are proposed to include commercial and retail space, a business incubator, lease-to-own townhomes and market rate homes.
