In order to help preserve the City's existing housing stock, the City of Fort Wayne periodically operates Home Repair programs. The programs provide forgivable or low-interest loans and technical assistance to qualified homeowners for home improvements projects, such as installing new windows or a new furnace.
No homeowner repair program is open at this time. Please continue to check this site and local media for information about the next program.
The City of Fort Wayne Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services (OHNS) continues to formalize agreements with partner agencies and financial institutions for the 2014 Homeowner Repair Programs (HRP). It is expected the HRP for 2014 will include the Neighborhood Impact Program (NIP) and the Senior-Disabled Accessibility Modifications Program (AMP) both of which benefit from funding offered through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis (FHLBI) and OHNS from its U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
Potential applicants for NIP will need to Pre-Screen with a local FHLBI member bank that has partnered with OHNS. This partnership is designed to enhance applicant access to credit and make a variety financing products available. NIP will utilize a five year forgivable loan for the FHLBI funding and low interest, 5 year amortized payback loan for the OHNS funding. NIP is designed to provide existing homeowner rehabilitation assistance to income qualified households.
Potential applicants for AMP will need to Pre-Screen with local OHNS partner agencies already serving those populations intended to be assisted. AMP will utilize a five year forgivable loan for both the FHLBI and OHNS funding. AMP is designed to provide accessibility modification assistance and limited homeowner rehabilitation assistance for senior owner-occupied households or those with a permanent disability. All households must be income qualified.
OHNS expects to release the HRP Guidelines and Pre-Screening information prior to March 31st. OHNS will set appointments to take HRP applications with those individuals who have successfully pre-screened.
